5 Top Tips to Make a Home More Comfortable

A new property is very exciting and putting your stamp on it can really make it a home. Decoration is key to making a home your own and these are our five favourite ways to make our nests that little bit more comfortable for all within them.

1. Aroma. So we don’t all have the time to constantly bake chocolate brownies or pies or fresh bread so our homes can’t always smell as enticing as we might like them to but there are other ways around this. We find pot pourri to be quite dated and to be honest, bowls of the stuff just doesn’t appeal to us so we prefer to opt for candles and plug ins. Plug ins are great but often pricey so opt for scented candles if you’re on a budget. Vanilla is our all time favourite but you can opt for darker colours and more festive scents during the winter months.

2. Lighting. Lighting is very important in a home, glaring lights and uncovered light bulbs are big no nos. Candles and low lamplights are our favourite mood creating devices. They create atmosphere and a really inviting atmosphere.

3. Texture. Throws and cushions and plenty of them are a great way of giving a home that really cosy looks. They don’t have to be twee if you prefer the minimalist look but they make a sofa or a bed that little more inviting. Use a variety of textures to create layers of comfort.

4. Colours. Always use warm inviting colours rather than bright or harsh shades. Light colours create space and neutral colours will create an environment that people can relax in.

5. Accessorise. Photos are the ultimate way to make a house a home. They tell your story and are a constant reminder of your nearest and dearest. Photographs should be displayed in all homes. Mix and match frame sizes and styles and use flat space as well as the walls such as fireplaces or side tables to display them.
