Exceptional walnut Victorian bed made by “Pottier & Stymus Co, 375 Lexington Ave, New York” (Original label, protected by a plastic cover is on the back). Augusta Pottier joined with William Stymus in 1859 to form one of the finest and respected furniture factories in the United States.
They employed many of the exceptional design attributes that are found on this bed including hand painted porcelain plaques, cast bronze mounts, satinwood banding, burled panels and gilt incised panels. On this bed the exquisitely painted round porcelains are set in place with a fancy brass border. The headboard plaque is flanked by two exceptional bronze busts with the original patination.

The narrow carved top crest has had some repairs at either end. This bed has a queen size length and could easily be fitted with an appropriate custom made box spring and mattress. This is the first piece of furniture we have ever owned that was signed by Pottier and Stymus. It is a very stylish and important piece of Victorian furniture!
