Fabulous Renwick Rococo Walnut Server
Circa: 1870
Dimensions: 48″H x 51.5″W x 23.5″D
Finish: Good dark original
Description: Fabulous Rococo walnut Victorian server attributed to Robert C. Renwick, Baltimore, MD. The top crest is beautifully carved with a fox head in the middle. The top surface is richly figured walnut.
Fancy carvings and recessed moldings adorn the skirt. The front carving is missing a small center embellishment. The legs have a dynamic shape with fluting and buttons around the base. The open carved curved stretchers support a superb carved basket of fruit in the middle.
Renwick was best known for working in the Modern Gothic style. This piece has some elements of that style (recessed panels, etc) along with some Rococo ones (basket of fruit).
