Fine quality walnut Victorian gentleman’s chest. It has an original beveled glass mirror with open carved returns. The frame of the mirror is all carved. It is held on to the frame by two large original brass bolts on the side. There are five drawers with bookmatched burled fronts and a secret drawer in the bottom. The smaller top drawer and the sides of the chest have carvings.
The drawers have the original cast brass hardware accept for one of the round brass back rosettes has been replaced with a larger one. The right side of the chest has a locking bar that swings open to release the drawers. Originally this mechanism was used to keep the maid out of the gentleman’s chest.
