Great chestnut Victorian lockside chest
Circa: 1880
Dimensions: 62″H x 39″W x 24″D
Finish: Excellent polished original
Great chestnut Victorian lockside chest. The gallery has raised burled panels and carving in the middle and returns. The chest has six drawers that feature square raised burled panels, original fancy cast brass hardware and deep carving in the middle. The top drawer is curved. There is a rope turned column on both sides.
The right side has a side bar that locks the drawers in place so that the maid could not get into them. There are double raised beveled panels on each side of the case. We seldom find case pieces from this period in chestnut - it has such a beautiful tone.
