Masterpiece American Renaissance Revival Bedroom Suite

Price: $57,500

Product Features:

American Victorian Furniture. The Best of the Best. Incredible American Victorian Neo-Grec Renaissance Revival Bedroom suite. Circa 1870. The set consists of a bed and marble topped mirrored chest of drawers. The set is walnut and maple with burl walnut panels. Each burl panel is slightly raised and outlined by maple. There are marquetry inlaid details all over the bed and chest. This museum quality 2 piece set was most likely made by one of the prominent cabinet makers of the period.
Possibly Herter, Jelliff, or Roux. Beautifully large detailed carved heads on the corner of the bed and mirrored chest. Marquetry inlaid center panels. Look at the inlay work on the large finials. Thick curved foot to the bed. On each corner of the curved footboard is a detailed carved rose done in maple and curved on the shield shape burl panel. The set is much nicer than pictured, as we didn’t have much room or good lighting to work with. You will need tall ceilings for this set as each is about 9 feet tall (108”).

The condition appears very good. We are selling this as found and untouched. You will notice the mirror plate is missing (easily replaced). There are, I believe, 5 minor small molding losses (3 are on the back of the bed and unseen when the bed is against the wall, and 2 are on the bottom foot of the headboard). The finish appears original and in very good shape. I found no losses to the marquetry on either set. Marble is in excellent shape. We do have all original knobs for the chest (not in picture). We do have 4 large wheels for the bed (3 original and one appears to be replaced. All old). Missing 1 inner drawer lock. Mirror frame sits on top of marble chest. Dings, losses and scuffs. Will easily hold a full size mattress. Possibly could be altered to queen. Inner measurements are about 60” wide and 76” long.
