Earlier this year, the department was slapped with an interdict by the Bhisho High Court after Bongile Nkola, the managing director of Cashmere Trade 48 and Richshaw Trade and Investment, took it to court for failing to respond to his demands.

This came after he complained about the department’s manufacturing specifications, which he claimed did not accord with the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework.
Acting judge Leon Kemp granted Nkola the interdict on March 20 and ordered the department to supply him with certain documents which included a list of successful tenderers in April.

However, the department failed to supply the information on time, and Nkola took the department to court again for contempt of court. The department has now compiled the information, but is refusing to pay the legal costs of the contempt of court application, arguing that the delay was not intentional.

“The attitude of the applicants in pursuing the contempt aspect was unreasonable and they should accordingly be ordered to pay the costs; alternatively there should be no order as to costs in relation to the contempt issue,” argued the department.

But while the matter is being battled out in court, schools who desperately need furniture are forced to cram up to four pupils in desks meant to accommodate two.

So severe is the situation at several schools that pupils are sitting on five litre containers and bricks. At Gcobani Intermediate School in Cambridge, pupils sit on paint tins, with some sharing homemade benches.

But still nothing had been done by the department about their problem since the story appeared, he added.

Mkuseli Mfaxa, principal at Mpentse Junior Secondary, said they felt little hope of getting furniture because nothing had been done to solve their problem.

Safari Book Display Reviews: They were quick to put together although I didn’t follow the directions for the second one. First, I would highly suggest using a drill. It would’ve taken much longer to put it together has I used a screwdriver. The display comes with 4 pieces 2 sides, 1 bottom and the inner wooden dowels with canvas for the books. The directions tell you to screw the woden dowels into the sides first, and then screw in the bottom piece. I found it much each easier to screw the bottom piece to the 2 sides first the wooden dowels stayed in place much better while screwing them into place because the structure of the display was already there. Other than that one minor flaw one of the dowels cracked as I was screwing it into place. I don’t know whether this was my fault or a product defect, but it happened. It didn’t affect the display, but time will tell whether this one wooden dowel holds up as well as the others.

Aside from putting it together, this is the cutest thing ever! The sides are actually carved out, they aren’t just a picture. The display holds a decent amount of books too! And, the kids love to see the fronts of the books they’re much more likely to pull out the books if they can see the pictures!

The lift top is counter-sprung so it holds its own against gravity. If you lift the top part way before it comes back down to it’s fully extended position, the top will not fall but instead holds it’s position. A nice safety feature!  The steel brackets and support arms are substantial and hold the top rigidly as it swings up and out. The top remains parallel to the floor while it comes up. Inside the table are two compartments providing discreet storage for TV remotes and magazine-sized items, a feature which can help you keep a clean look in your front room or family room, while keeping things handy.
I am not a small guy, and these tables have no problem with me sitting on them. The table tops are thick and the legs are attached securely with multiple bolts. The finish is done in the popular semi-gloss and all corners are comfortably rounded. The wood grain is not completely filled so you get the feel of the real wood construction. Under the table are 4 small wheels that will aid in moving the table, but they are set low enough so that the table legs can sink into carpet, an arrangement which provides a solid purchase for the table against rolling away from you when you lift the top up.

If someone were to place this table on a hard surface such as slate flooring, they may want to remove the wheels. The under-table shelf is done in the same type of veneer as is the top and is similarly solid. My least favorite part of the table is the construction of the legs, which was done by cutting a series of triangular sections lengthwise out of the back of a flat composition board, then re-gluing the legs into a crescent, which now comprises small 3/4″ angular sections, instead of it’s having been milled into a smooth curve then the veneer was placed on top of the multi-angle substructure. It more approximates a curve than is a curve. But this is a detail your guests will probably never notice. This technique no doubt saves lots of material and difficult woodworking.

The company told its local employees that they were not to report to work yesterday, and referred any questions to its human resources department. It gave no indication whether the shutdown would be reversed.

Company officials could not be reached for comment.
Norwalk Mayor Sue Lesch said the northwest Ohio city is working with the furniture company in hopes of getting its facility operating again.

“I hope this is temporary,” Mayor Lesch said. “They’ve faced a lot of challenging economic times over the years and they’re trying to get things back together and get people back to work.”

Founded in 1902 by German-born Edward Gerken, the firm moved to Norwalk in 1919. Its products are sold both through a chain of franchise stores under the name “Norwalk - The Furniture Idea” and by hundreds of independent retailers, such as Veh & Sons Furniture in Gibsonburg.

Happily, I had a great experience. My husband, who is very handy, put it together within an hour or so. It looks good and is comfortable. We put a protective sealer on it in order to lock in the color, and prevent fading. We’ll see how that works out.

Eco Friendly 7p Eucalyptus Dining Set Reviews: Nonetheless, I am thrilled with the quality of this set; equivalent sets are selling for hundreds more. Every piece is exceptionally well crafted, the carpentry very high quality. Just the way the chairs unfold is impressive. This set will last for a long time, even if I fold and unfold the pieces frequently. Attention to detail is such that a wood circle is included to fill the center umbrella hole if you don’t want to use an umbrella. Finally, its design makes it compact but not unusably small, which I have seen all too frequently with wood patio sets in this price range. Spacious for a meal for two or three people; comfortable for four.

I took off a star only because it’s billed as “eco friendly”  which perhaps it is if you live in Singapore, where the wood is harvested, rather than halfway around the world via fossil fuel. If this is really important to you, you’ll need to keep looking; I chose to make a compromise on green ness in order to get the best of what I could afford to spend. Speaking of green, the included cover is a loud kelly green; it’s a bit jarring nice to have a free cover, but I would prefer a more natural shade.

Because I have a borderline obsession for decorating, I have been browsing for furniture long before I even narrowed down my location preference. During one of my furniture-hunting crusades, I came across an interesting and cash-conscious alternative to buying new pieces.
