IRS closes Country Furniture by Schulers

Internal Revenue Service agents showed up in force Wednesday to close a Janesville furniture maker that they allege is behind in quarterly employment and annual unemployment taxes.

The IRS acted Wednesday on four federal tax liens against Country Furniture by Schulers that date back to 1998.
The agents told employees to gather their personal belongings and go home.

Owner Steve Schuler said the IRS has seized his assets and bank accounts. He said he has been in regular contact with the IRS and has been making payments on the back taxes.

Schuler said he will continue to work with the IRS to resolve the matter and hopes to avoid an IRS auction of his business.

In the meantime, Schuler said he will contact all customers about pending orders.
