Longoria keeps furniture moving
After delivering furniture for more than three decades, Gus Longoria decided four years ago to get into the Furniture sales end of the business, so he purchased California Furniture Liquidators in Salinas.
During all the years he was delivering furniture, the Longoria, who lives in the foothills east of Salinas, said he hoped to one day own a store; hence, when the opportunity presented itself to purchase the business, he jumped at the chance.
California Furniture Liquidators, 1356 Dayton St., offers various lines of new living room, bedroom, and dining room furniture.
“Since we are located in a 15,000-square-foot warehouse and have lower overhead, we can give lower prices,” Longoria said. “We are always receiving new merchandise from our suppliers and have plenty of space to display it.”
According to the store owner, mattresses, sofas and loveseats are his top-selling items, followed by dining-room and occasional tables.
Like other businesses tied to the home Furniture sector, Longoria said he has experienced a decline in sales over the past 18 months.
“It was real good when we opened and then it slowed way down,” he said. “If we make it through this year, though, I think we’ll be OK.”
