Hooker Furniture 2Q profit falls by more than half
Hooker Furniture Corp. said Tuesday its fiscal second-quarter fell by more than half amid a prolonged slump in the home market. Dates for furniture market change again
The dates for the High Point furniture market are changing again.
Beginning in April 2009, the semiannual trade show will begin on Saturday and end on Thursday.
The board of directors for the High Point Market Authority approved the change today. The previous market week, which remains in place for the October show, was Monday through Sunday.

Haverty Furniture Cos. said Wednesday that same-store sales fell 6.3 percent last month as a weak home furnishing market persisted amid the continued housing slump.
Same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least one year, is a key gauge of retailers’ performance because it measures sales at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.

The Land of Leather furniture chain has just been fined ï¿¡210,000 for selling policies through its 90 stores without proper training or supervision of staff.
